However, when I began to scan, I got the most distorted images- they have vertical streaks that run throughout the image causing bluring and distortion that looks like the image is smudged - looks as though someone ran a squeagy over the image. I did Fortran as well, was good at it, much better than COBOL. I followed the set up instructions to the letter. My viewpoint stands: the 3170 is crap because it doesn't work. They have become so managerially inept at the upper levels in Japan that their E mail doesn't even work correctly anymore my opinion is that too many Geisha Girls and sake haven damaged the corporate brains. The core problem here is failure of quality control and management at Epson.
